The client needed to upgrade the entire business from Windows 7 to Windows 10 OS on all user devices – whilst also keeping the business up to date with the enhancing world of IT and security compliance.
Historic England are a public body that helps people care for, enjoy and celebrate England’s spectacular historic environment consisting of all grades listed historic buildings across England. The client required a build and support team to be brought in, to provide support for the internal IT and project teams. They wanted to upgrade the entire business from Windows 7 to Windows 10 OS on all user devices – whilst also keeping the business up to date with the enhancing world of IT and security compliance.
What did SAS Tech services do?
The scope of the project was large. The overall objective being to build and provide all 2000 Historic England end-user staff with a new windows 10 imaged laptop. An 11-person SAS team was implemented across a variety of IT engineering roles to cover the support requirement of the project. This included:
- 1x Technical Project Manager
- 4x Build and Customisation Engineers
- 5x Deployment Engineers & Technical Handover Engineers
- 1x IT Support Engineer
The process was to configure and image the laptops and then customise the devices to suit the requirements of each individual user with the required software and setup. The devices were then handed over to staff via a scheduled technical handover, which is currently happening across multiple sites in England. Any additional support requirements are managed via the IT Support Engineer.
Via the SAS PM management and working very closely with the Historic England IT and Project Teams, the SAS staff can fully identify the requirements to meet the rollout service level agreements, while keeping a high level of customer care. The engineers created and maintained a strict building and handover process/procedure, which works well within the project to make sure there is a smooth and efficient handover with each staff member.
